extended warranties
i'm looking opinions on extended warranties...i am buying a 2001 740iL with 60,000 miles..do i buy the bmw warranty, GE, other? or just invest the warranty premium and keep up on the reguired maintenance..

BMW parts and service CAN be expensive. It wouldn't hurt to check out say...Consumer's Digest or something and see how your particular model performs and get some idea of what generally goes wrong when. Then you can make a somewhat informed decision as to which would be cheaper - to have the warranty or not. Asking other BMW owners of your particular series (as you have done here) is a good start, as well.

I had a 97 740 and bought the warranty at 80,000 kilometers (50,000)miles
At that time the warranty was good to 180,000 k 120,000 miles and it paid for itself. Warranty cost $3000. Service under warranty $6000. over 4 years. Marty |
