modify a 88 to an 87 crx body kit

i was wondering if anyone knew how to modify or knew of any sites that tell you how to modify a 88 body kit to fit a 87 crx and what are the differences between the 2.

Wow, this has been posted about 200 times.

Anyway the 2G front end is shorter than the 1G, the 2g is several inches wider, the rear bumper is different, the body contours are different, and the door profile is different.

Yes it's possible to modify the 2G body kit to work on a 1G but with the ammount of work involved, any body kit will do.

Andy's Auto sells their own design along with a 2G Mugen knock-off modified to fit a 1G (looks like the one on my car). Houseman sells a reproduction of the original 1G Mugen kit along with their own widebody kit.

are wide body kits just for looks or do they serve as a purpose ... just curious??

They serve a purpouse if you're running a wheel with a high offset.
