Australian V8 Supercar?

Always been a big fan, we get them on tape delay over the winter on SPEED TV here. Just wondering if any of you Aussie's have seen a model kit for any of them? Preferably a Holden... I've seen a few diecasts, but that's about it.

Re: Australian V8 Supercar?

Nothing in plastic. Only a VY Commodore and that was about 8 years ago. Nothing on the current generation. Biante has been doing the V8's for years now. But that's 1/18th scale Diecasts. Look nice, but again, it's a diecast.

I have sourced a donor kit for the Falcon and wanted to get stuck into my conversion again. I wasn't sure about the market for a 24ths cale Resin V8 Supercar. I am not sure what would suit the VE Commodore shape. So I ahve no starting point there. Detail pics are a problem too. There isn't a lot out there. Hardly any engine shots. If you do see them, send them on.

I now call the series Ausssie NASCAR.

Regards
Nenad

Re: Australian V8 Supercar?

That's a shame. And I for one would be all over a resin transkit, one of a Holden and one of a Ford preferably. Are there any kits of the street cars that we could kitbash?

Re: Australian V8 Supercar?

Hi John

as Nenad has stated, nothing recent. Try this link which has some resin stuff in it. The only V8 supertaxi is the 1992 VP Commodore. Body only and was designed for the Tamiya R32 Skyline as a donor.

http://www.scaleautomobilia.com.au/aussiecars.htm

The two diecast protaginosts here in Australia do a pretty good job of replicating them in 1/64, 1/43 and 1/18 that the market for either a kit or a resin conversion is just too small as it is so much easier to buy a car that you can put on your shelf as soon as you walk in the door.

Re: Australian V8 Supercar?

Hey John,

As the other guys have said, there is nothing I know of in 1/24 other than the older resin stuff. It is a bit of a shame, considering that (like NASCAR) it would be simple to produce decal kits to cover many different vehicles - only two cars racing afterall.

I believe that much of the problem lies in licensing. Just recently one of the two companies that have produced V8 Supercars in the past (and it is open to argument whether they did the best diecast) stopped producing current cars due to the cost. They still produce "classic" Australian touring cars, but no current ones. Seems to me that the current head of V8 Supercars fancies himself as a new Bernie Ecclestone, but has negelcted to realise that V8SC is a little series in a little country - on the world scale at least.

As for kitbashing, certainly the Falcons have nothing even remotely close. For the Commodores there is nothing close to the V8 Supercars, but you could take one of the Pontiac GTO kits and convert it to the Monaro that was raced at the Bathurst 24 Hours, for example.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but us Aussie touring car fans must satisfies themselves with the old Group A cars.

Cheers,
Grant.

p.s. hopes this makes sense, but I have just got back from a conference dinner, it is 2am, and I have had more than a reasonable amount of beer

Re: Australian V8 Supercar?

Thanks for the replies guys... maybe one of our resin wizards would be interested in doing a transkit for the Holden, using, say, the Revell GTO?
