Profil-24 MG Metro 6R4 pics

My Christmas presents arrived this week: A Profil-24 MG Metro 6R4 and a Reji Skoda Fabia WRC.

Here is the Metro. Not sure what happened with the lighting: There are three flourescent bulbs on the ceiling above, and an Ott Lite on the table, and some of them were still quite dark, so I think I have to tweak the white balance/lighting.

These two are my first resin kits, and the Metro is pretty disappointing: Virtually every part has air bubbles in it that will need to be filled, and a few (The rear 'venturi' and the back of the radiator) are warped and need to be flexed to fit in place. When the body is dropped in place, the front inner fenders show and will have to be modfied. The biggest problems are the tires, which are very hard and impossible to stretch over the wheels, and the front bumper overhangs the body by about 2-3mm on each side and will have to be cut or sanded to fit.

It's not all bad: The interior looks good, especially the dashboard and door panels, and the wires molded in place are quite good. The wheels are nice, the PE set looks good, and it has actual struts and springs, unlike most resin kits.

This kit will require a lot work to complete, and that's just to build it out of the box, not including all the other details I want to add. I will definitely let this one sit until I am more confident in my skills to finish it (Or I want to sell it, whichever comes first). For the price I paid, it's a little disappointing, but I guess that's the price you have to pay when it's the only game in town.

Oh yeah, anybody know if the rally/number plates for other events that year (1986) are available? I'm not sure I like the Corsica-spec all that much.

I know how you feel being slightly dissapointed with the resin kit standard. When I built my Reji Audi Quattro 'Group B' I was feeling the same.It seemed a lot of money for a kit that would require a load of work to make it good.It was worth it in the end though as it turned out really well.I suppose having the chance to build the Metro at all is a good thing.I hope to see you build your Metro in the future it would be a shame to sell it.Steve.

Re: Profil-24 MG Metro 6R4 pics

Hi SteveK2003,

don't forget this resin kit is from an artisanal small brand, resin bubbles are a little disappionting but every resin kit I could built have had such problem, sometimes much, sometimes less... that's the inconvenient of resin.
Profil 24 uses a very soft resin. that's good, you'll see it if you build that kit !

Moreover I didn't notice the problems you mentionned on your kit on mine...

Talking about the model itself, I decided to cut the front bumper support included in the fender, that doesn't allow a good fit of the front bumper.
I decided to modify the exhaust pipes (scratch rebuild it) which doesn't fit very well with the rest of the exhaust system.

exhaust final pipes (exact word in english...??) are missing but will easyly be scratch built or found somewhere in my spare parts.

I intend to detail the engine room too, but that's another song !

Bye
Phil

Which one would you expect to find ?
I don't intend to build the Corsica verson, too, planning to build the most Monte Carlo 86 I'll be able to (cos' I already have the delta S4 and the quattro S1 for this race), for which aim I'll need to print some decals...

I'm waiting my RS 200 kit too, in which I will be able to find other 86 plates, which I will probably add on my own 86 decals page...

Bye

Re: Profil-24 MG Metro 6R4 pics

If you think about it, they don't take all that much more work than a typical plastic kit, especially when it comes to detailing the dashboard, engine, etc. And yes, I think it will be worth it, especially since there are no other options out there: I wouldn't buy a resin Corolla or Impreza or something, since there are plastic options out there already.

And no, I don't 'plan' to sell it, nor do I want to, but if the value gets really high in the near future, I wouldn't be averse to it. The Metro and Skoda were really 'splurges' on my part, as while I have a TON of models, I bought the vast majority of them at about 50% of the normal price (Wal-Mart's $5.98 specials, clearance sales, eBay, swap meets, etc).

After the next swap meet in April (At the last one I got 12 or 13 models for about $90) I am cutting back on buying models for the rest of the summer. I want to get back into R/C cars more than in the past, and I also want to get working on finishing my basement so I have a space where I'm not afraid to work and possibly get messy (Right now I'm working in a spare bedroom with hardwood floors).

Re: Profil-24 MG Metro 6R4 pics

I did notice it's pretty forgiving, especially the 'fins' where the wings mount. The only reason I will definitely make a new rollcage is because the kit's cage is incomplete.

Where exactly did you cut the bumper/mounts? I think I will make the bumper narrower, cutting the sections out from right next to each of the front wing fins, so I do not have to reshape the corners.

Things like the exhaust pipes and headers won't be too hard to make, especially if you stick with the kit's mufflers: I would use solder, which bends easily and doesn't have to be painted.

I won't go nuts with the engine, but I want to add as much as I can without driving myself crazy. Definitely plug wires, fuel lines, etc.

I'm not sure, the Metro didn't run many world championship rallies. I really just don't like the black brake 'vents'. Maybe I would build the Monte Carlo, or even the RAC from 1985 depending on how hard it is to convert to gravel (Just new tires I hope, given that the cars rode so high back then). I will probably build most of my tarmac cars for the Monte, as I want to make a diorama of a cliff-side hairpin for photos and display.

I would like to get a kit like the Delta or S1, or even one of the S1600 cars, but I found a website that sells S1, Quattro, and Saxo and 105 hot-hatch R/C bodies, and I want those more LOL

Re: Profil-24 MG Metro 6R4 pics

You could build the '86 RAC car, on the Sundays tarmac stages they run with the kits 6 spoke wheel but no cooling vents, I have this kit myself and was impressed with the quality compared to a REJI Octavia kit car I did a couple of years ago, have built very little for over a year(new wife etc....) so am doing a couple of box standard plastic kits to get back my confidence before starting this baby :-)

Re: Profil-24 MG Metro 6R4 pics

Monte 86 & RAC 85 could have the Tarmac wheels but without the carbon wheel fans. If you are after source pics LMK, I'll try and get some sorted.

Looks a decent kit compared to the RPM version.

Re: Profil-24 MG Metro 6R4 pics

Regarding front bumper, is it supose to be slightly bent or it should be flat (looking from above), mine is flat and sticks out of the body for good 2mm on each side, I tried to bend it slightly and got to 1mm from each side but it isn't flat anymore (sorry no pics).

I'm thinking McRae rothmans version!
I have a million pics and some 85 RAC clips if you need it.

Nice version, right, but how would you build this one with the "computervision" version ??

The Belga version is planned at Profil24, but they still need some pics or documents, may you have some for this version ?
