94 civic dx
1.5 liter, 4 speed auto.
Is there anything i need to remove in order to set the timing? I've got a sh*t load of "pinging" on any acceleration, so im going to check to see wether the timing belt is streched, or if the timings off. It dont matter what octane either, it still happens. lol. Any tricks to try on this car for timing? Thanks Bill |

Re: 94 civic dx
Do you know where the clip connection for the ECU is to jumper? It should be up under the dash on the passenger side. Find the connector and jumper it. The stops the computer from making any corrections to the timing and you can then check the timing.

Re: 94 civic dx
Small timing adjustments can also be made at the distributor cap by physically adjusting the position. To do that you can loosen the bolts just enough to rotate the distributor and then adjust until the timing is right. This can be done while the engine is on. I would suggest having a second person to help.

Re: 94 civic dx
in order for that to work you need to jump the service connector... otherwise the ECU will try and adjust the timing itself... its a 2 prong female clip near the ECU but under the dash. i made a jumper be using speaker wire...
