try doing a compression test, you may have a blown head gasket or a the head could be cracked

I was wondering though. If you have a cracked head or blown head gasket would'nt you see smoke out the tail pipe or the oil turning to a milkshake color? This engine runs pretty smooth and has good power but this just does not make sense. Thanks for responding, Mike.

Re: 1996 pontiac sunfire overheating 2.2L

not really your head could be warped and the coolant can be leaking on the side of the head not mixing with you oil and not going into your exhaust. it is a common problem w/ the 2.2l to leak in the frnt driver side of the head.for a peace of mind do a pressure test and a compression test.
