water pump went out a while back causing engine to overheat, blew a head gasket. Removed distributor while doing repairs, as far as I know I placed everything back in the right order, including distributor, but now the engine will turn over perfectly but wont start. checked spark plug wires and nothing is crossed, fuel pump fine and carburetor free of gunk. Engine just wont start. Please help.

Re: 85 cutlass wont start after gasket repair
Welcome to AF!!
Turn the engine over until the timing mark is lined up with #1 at top dead center. Then pull the distributer cap and check to make sure that the rotor is on #1. I suspect that the distributer is off either by a few degrees or by 180 degrees. Happens sometimes. It would also help to know what size engine you have. |
