Changing a starter on 84 Bird

I am going to change the starter on my 84 bird and have never changed a starter before. Darn thing works once in a blue moon. About every 5 to 10 minutes I get a good crank . It seems pretty simple and strait forward. I would like to know if there are any tricks or tips involved with the removal or installation. Can anyone provide info. Thanks

Re: Changing a starter on 84 Bird

Very basic removal, you should have no problem.. Disconnect the battery before you start, then just take the starter off, swap on the new one.. Hook the battery back up.. Done deal..

Re: Changing a starter on 84 Bird

Should be fairly simple, as Mercedes said. Is it a v8? It's been a while since I've had to change the starter in my 83 but I think it's a pretty tight squeeze to get it out because the exhaust runs under it. I think I had to jockey it around to get the nose pointing down to get it out, but it's still pretty simple. Disconnect battery first!

It is a 2.8 carb V6, I capitalized the V to make the engine seem bigger
