New Toys! 12's and Amp!
Well I have been wanting to upgrade for a while so I went out and had two 12's and an amp put in. Sony Xplod 12's with the Xplode 1200w Amp to match. Installed and all (including taxes) was $600 flat. I originally wanted 10's for personal enjoyment but they were $560 installed so I figure why not get the bigger speakers and bigger amp for only $40 more. These things hit HARD and very clean sounding. Not fuzzy/static sounding at all like I have heard other systems.
What do you guys think?? http://alteredaltitudes.com/audio/100_0356.JPG http://alteredaltitudes.com/audio/100_0358.JPG

Congrats on your new investment. I'm sure there loud as hell. but be nice to them. Ive had bad history w/ sony subs. I have 3 melted voice coils already on 3 diff subs. But i have an 800 watt sony amp thats about 5 years old and it still does the job very well. But for that price you really can't complain

Re: New Toys! 12's and Amp!
A little rattle from the tag which will be fixed soon enough but even at a high volume (I have yet to full blast it yet but loud enough to rattle your teeth and eyes) I have no rattle except from the rear windshield wiper. It vibrates but not noticeable unless you are standing at the rear windshield. I was quite surprised by that. No soundproofing needed on mine luckily.
And Dino, you may not have a loud system but at least you still have $600 in the bank that I don't! =)

Very nice, say goodbye to all your space in the back! Where did you put the amp? where has everyone else put their amp? I have mine on the flap behind the passenger side backseat. It is perfect.

Re: New Toys! 12's and Amp!
I was a little hesitant before i decided to get 12's. The damn people at best buy told me that 12's were not as accurate as 10's. Went to a place that was voted as one of the top 50 stereo installers in the nation to learn that was not true. So I decided to get those "dual" subs with the matching 1000 watt amp. I love the box for it though its got built in neons the only bad thing is they are bright at night so sometimes i have to turn them off

I wont get anything but 10"s. thats my choice. I listen to alot of rock. Mostly METALLICA, and linkin park type stuff. And some of that stuff can hit sooooo fast its unreal that my subs can keep up and they still hit hard, they are very "puncy". If i listen to the same music in my buddy car w/ a JL 12W7 powered by a JL 1000/1. All u here is bass. there is no distinction between bass notes on the fast stuff. but its LOUD as balls. But w/ my 10's if i turn up the bass for rap. Its plenty loud for me. I work at a retail store and the biggest problem ppl come to is 10's or 12's it just comes down to what you want

Re: New Toys! 12's and Amp!
Ya im a mostly radio rock kinda guy....... but once in a while I listen to rap and metalcore (only when im pissed). I was amazed at the accuracy. Your right though it all comes down to preference............ I also made sure the stereo center tuned my amp to a rock cd.......... dont know if that affects it any but whatever. If anyone else has subs it would be awesome if they posted it here

Re: New Toys! 12's and Amp!
My amp was mounted on the flap behind the left rear seat. It wants to move though. I hit a bump I can hear the amp hit the box because the flap gives too easy. I will mount it to the top of the box soon to correct that. Trying to find a neat way to do it, make it looks nice and clean.
I like the other pics posted as well. I am mostly rock but I do like some rap. I admit it is OVERKILL for what I listen to but it was so cheap I decided to go with it. So far I am VERY happy with the quality of sound coming from the box. Although I still have not even "crunk" it up yet. I will later.
