89astro/got lights/no ignition
Hi i got a 89 astro, wh ich i am working on, the battery is good, this astro sat around in a field for a year, i havent tried turning the crank to see if the engine is seezed, but i did get a couple of cliks out of it, where should i start looking, perhaps the starter, everything runs except no turning over...I have a spare starter from the 90 that then engine died on. any help would be appreciated loking at the guages, it reads 1/2 tank of gas, the temp guage is half way up, the battery guage is where it should be, not too sure where to look
thanks |

Re: 89astro/got lights/no ignition
Turn on the lights, then try to crank the engine. What happens to the lights when the starter is engaged?

Re: 89astro/got lights/no ignition
nope nothing, not even a click click, i did notice the first time i did it, i got a clicking noise from the passenger side, there is what appears to be some sort of pug ins, like a fusable link block or something, there is two of them, and they have about 6 18gu wires running into them and then out the other side and off to various places, its right up against the firewall, dont know if this has anything to do with ignition, i guess perhaps taking off the starter and puttin my 90 astro one on. I dont know perhaps a blown fuse???, the guy did have a marine wonch battery in it before hand.

Re: 89astro/got lights/no ignition
But do the lights dim/extinguish when you try to operate the starter?

Re: 89astro/got lights/no ignition
Just a guess, but could this be related to those fusible links behind the fuse box?
