Okay this kid i know- said that in Japan Market they DIDNT make a Auto tranny for anything-- & then he went on to try & tell me that tha SIR/SiR2/GSR/Type-R (jap models) Only came in 5spd -- now heres me thinkin -- damn this kid is slow honda cant afford to produce just 5spd trannys for all those cars.... they would miss out on a huge market... so this post is to Prove that they did make a auto tranny for those cars.. please post any knowledge that u have on tha subject.
*Oh he also tried to tell me that tha USDM type-r, ONLY came in 5spd ~~(i dont know if thats tru so please pass tha knowledge on)~~...thanks!!~~ :sun:

Well Iv seen the complete model list for all the B16a and B18c powered cars ever sold in Japan, and the only models that never came with an Auto was the 4g SiR Civic (same as mine), and the EK9 or Type-R Civic.
EVERY OTHER MODEL, including the Integra Type-R came with an Auto option. Infact there was even a 4dr ITR sold in Japan. ![]() And its actualy getting hard here to find a manual import Integra or SiR Civic or Del Sol, as most of the cars sold in Japan, and them imported were Manuals. However all the Auto cars had detuned versions of the B16a or B18c. For example the B16a with an Auto g/box only makes 155hp. Not the full 170. So yes you are right, and the kid is wrong.

ohh - thats good to know...
-How is it de-tuned.. say u get a SiR2 engine w/ auto tranny, cant u just get a torque converter... & then youll get more HP? i mean tha Engine should come w/ 170hp no matter what... as for Tha tranny making it 155hp -- i dunno about that.... ~does any1 have a 2nd opinion?~ *i already New about tha 4dr ITR - but thanks for sharing...

The G/box itself dosnt have any effect on the engines tune.
That is generaly dictated by cam shaft profiles and time, and ignition timeing, and the static compression ratio. As well as other things like intake and exhasut manifold design, and the air flow capablities of the head. The Torque converter will not effect the hp of the engine, and is simply takes the place of the conventional clutch in an Automatic g/box. My guess is Honda couldn't source an AutoBox capable of handling either the higher PRM of the B16a, or the high power and torque at that high RPM, and so detuned the engine by useing differnt cam shafts, and a differnt ECU.
