Progress - Tamiya 1/20 Williams FW13B

Tamiya 1/20 Williams FW13B

Hi all. This is not so much a progress thread, it's more just me wanting to briefly share what I'm currently working on. I haven't posted any pics in a while and if I don't do it soon I'm just going to explode...!

Anyway, this was supposed to be a 3-4 week quick build to free up some space around my (small) stack of kits, althoug having started around xmas it hasn't gone quite to plan. Lots of little hiccups, but then that's usual I suppose.

I won't comment too much, but just get on with the show...

As you can see (if you look very closely in the right places) it's all a tad scrappy at the moment, but it'll clean up nicely in time. Thanks for looking, and comments welcome.

Cheers,
Mark

Just so nice to see all these "old" F1's popping up! I love them. Knowing you, "cleaning it up nicely in time" is the understatement of the decade!

Good job, Mark, looking forward to see you progress on this one!

Yes, it's really great to see these old Tamiya F1's.
And I am sure you clean it up nicely, although it looks quite nice already..

Mark,

'Free up space' yeah right, you know you will have already bought at least 3 other kits to fill the space left by this one already!

The model is looking really nice, ...and as for the flaws - what flaws????????????

cant wait to see it finished.

Re: Progress - Tamiya 1/20 Williams FW13B

Hi Mark,

Nice progress on the FW13B. This was the subject of my first model. No primer, all hand painted, no microsol, high blood pressure with THE BLUE DECALS... ah, those were the days. (Actually, it was Christmas 04/05!). Keep up the good work. Looks like you separated the rear cowl to paint it separately... what a good idea... did it come off okay?

IMHO... I think that the lack of more recent Tamiya F1 showings is much to do with commercial secrets and intellectual property. A Revell with no detail underneath is much easier to persuade the teams to bite on than the increased intusion of a Tamiya model. In any-case, the reference picture problems associated with protected secrets in current F1 cars makes them difficult to detail. Thats why Studio27 and Red 5 are typically curbside.

billypee: actually it was not separated. As you can see on the last pic there's a moulded panel line on the cowling, which is where I masked. Took a bit of fiddling around, but I finally made it work.

Ahh, I can see that now. Its still a very nice and precise line you have there. Seems a shame to cover it up with Blue :-0

Re: Progress - Tamiya 1/20 Williams FW13B

Hi guys,

A bit more has been done, so some pics to show you what I've been up to.

The eagle eyed of you may have noticed that the engine is essentially all black. This is intentional, as this is basically going to be a curbside build, I won't be displaying the engine at all.

The production line...

The Williams will be straight OOB, and the Leyton House is my first attempt at complex detailing. Robrex has kindly machined up some new shock absorbers for me also, so hopefully I'll have something exciting to show you on the Leyton House front soon as well.

If you're interested in the Leyton House build so far, check out this link:

Cheers all,
M
