Remote Wire For Amp
Any ideas from where i can run this wire? It is the remote wire so that the amp turns on when the ingnition is turned. Can i run it to the fuse box or something? The head unit won't work because i have the RF package on my spec!
Thanks, Joe |

Connect the power antenna wire from your radio to the amp power wire.

the power antenna would be perfect, but you say that your head unit is not compatable with the rest of the RF package?
What if you took apart second cigarette lighter in the center between the seats, and splice the power from that. I think that is an "accesory" meaning that it is not powered unless the ignition is turned on. The only problem is that it would remain on if you turned your radio off. Can you explain more about your head unit not being compatable? So you have the RF package, and you have put in your own head unit? You are upgrading from the RF amp to a better one? Why won't the remote wire from the after market head unit work? Just curious... I don't have the RF package, but I do have two amps and a graphical EQ running from the remote wire out of my deck. |

Nope i have the stock RF head unit! Every piece of audio in my car is stock. The only think that i am doing is taking out the stock sub, adding an alpine v12 amp, and adding two audiobahn subs. The amp i am adding is only for the subs....nothing else. Someone told me that the remote wire on the head unit was proprietary....only for the current stock amp would work. I was thinking....can't i just splice into the ignition wire that is running up the steering column? It would a lot easier than taking the dash apart...again. If wire it to that cig plug then i have to take apart the entire consol....it is all one big peice. There has to be an easier solution.

Joe... this one should be easy.. now that I understand what is going on.
Look at the RF amp in the trunk.. Figure out which wire is the remote, and splice it right there.. Then you have to make a connection in that one place and run a short remote wire to your second amp. I have never examined the RF package, so I don't know if the whole amp is encased, and hard to get at... but it has to have a remote wire going into it... it shouldn't be that hard to find. The only trouble is that it might be a very tight wire (no slack or extra wire) so you might have to cut it and add two lengths of extra wire to it. Give it a shot.. if it doesn't look like it will work, give another shout, and we will think of something different. |

i have the rf package and an after marked head unit. i had to take the power antenna pin and move it to the amp pin on the wiring harness. but for you, i would say to do what phoenix is saying. i'm not sure what wire the remote wire is, but once you find it that should work. you could run the remote wire to your ignition....however the only problem with that is, your amp will be on all the time your car is on. not just when your stereo is on. the thing is, you probably never have your car on without the stereo on, so it doesn't matter anyway. you know? hope i helped man.....just keep in mind that when you put in an after market head unit, splice the power antenna wire coming from the head unit to the amp wire coming from the car....and that will turn on the rf stock amp and give all your speakers power. peace.

Hey there, if you already havent tinkered with it id like to add my 2 cents. First of all there should be no reason that the remote turn on from your factory deck shouldent work for an aftermarket amp. Sometimes they say that having too many amps hooked up to one remote turn on will weakn the signal too much, but any remote turn on from a deck should handle at least two to three amps fine. If you choose to run it from a diffrent location, like these guys said, just find something that is on when your car is on. In the past< I have run it to the head units power wire (before the inline fuse) and that works well also since its oversized to begin with (usually). Overall i believe that the factory remote turn on should work no prb. Have fun, any other q's ask away>
