Will a Cherokee axle fit my Grand?
Hi all,
I have a UK Grand Cherokee 4.0 Quadratrac with a howling rear axle (carrier bearings?) and I mean loud..it's like a world war two air raid siren! I have been offered a Cherokee (not Grand) axle but not sure if the actual diff' is the same, I know the Grand uses coil springs and the Cherokee uses leaf springs but it's the diff' I need...if not, how hard to change the axle bearings Cheers Richard London UK |

Re: Will a Cherokee axle fit my Grand?
What year donor vs host?
I'd start by getting the build sheets for both vehicles to see what they have back there.

Re: Will a Cherokee axle fit my Grand?
Alotta factors involved. Do you have a D35 or D44 rearend under your GC? Does the doner Cherokee have a D35 or Chrysler 8.25 rearend? What gear ratio do you have? What gear ratio does the doner have? Im not real knowledgable about the Quadratrac system but I think it has a differential that is specific to it.
You say you only want the diff from the Cherokee but then ask how hard it is to change the AXLE bearings, which have nothing to do with the differential itself. I guess Im not exactly sure what your plan is. The first thing I would suggest is to pull the cover off and identify what the problem is. Thats really whats going to determine what parts you need and if you can use the Cherokee parts. Im guessing theres not much on the Cherokee that will be of use. Even if it does have the same axle as your GC, I wouldnt ever reuse bearings or seals and the diff is probably different and used gear sets are generally not a great idea either. |
