Re: Prospective Purchases

4 barrel - 4 barrel carb.
I take it you're sticking with the 3rd gens? And it looks like you're price range is $4-5K, but you can get early 4th gens for around $5K also, just to throw that out there. Stock for stock, they get better mileage and have more power.

Re: Prospective Purchases

Since this thread is more for info and not wanting to buy a camaro or firebird right now I am going to move this to the general population so it might get seen more.

Re: Prospective Purchases

dual snorkel air clear is a rare air cleaner that only came on HO 305 motors, they can be tough to find, instead of having one intake tube it has two

Id be looking into the 383...only if the body was decent and it was street legal and can idle fine.

However...if that blown 383 was done right...it might be more car then you can handle...or should handle, if u are a a noob

Re: Prospective Purchases

and be careful going from a 2.8 to a 305 and bigger, these cars can pack some power and get away from you.

Re: Prospective Purchases

im leaning towards:

383, then the auto, then the carb last.. the HO is prolly the weakest engine in the bunch...

however, i think with all the prices around the same you have to check the rest of the conditions..make sure its been well taken care of. id rather have a bit weaker car thats been taken care of than a powerful beaten one..

I second the whole looking for a 4th gen car. subframe connectors are necessary on 3rd & 4th gen f-body cars, so make sure the doors shut nicely, if they seem like they are sagging it can either be a bent subframe or worn door pins, pick up on the end of the door to see it you feel the door pins move, if not then its probably the subframe starting to sag, which will lead to problems with the t-tops, and the doors, I'd recomend staying away from one that was sagging, and if you get a nice car without them on, put them on.
