Turbo opinions, help guys!

Ok, I have been planning which turbo to get once my DSM gets that far. I was planning on a 50 trim, but the SBR dyno shows that it only made 425 @ 25 psi "well equipped" and I think they are better equipped than I will be. I read that 20g's can get to 500 hp (I thought they were smaller than 50 trims ) but that would be a later resort because they are kinda spendy. So far, I narrowed it down to a SBR 60 trim and the PTE 3431 (57 trim dual bb). I am leaning toward the PTE 3431. Dual ball bearing sounds good, and though it probably will make less power than the 60 trim, but it should spool quite a bit quicker. I am after a turbo that will make 450 hp or so on race gas/higher boost for the track fairly easily, but have a decent spool time. What do you guys think?

Re: Turbo opinions, help guys!

I was thinking of going with a 20g, i'm not sure though. I've heard bb turbos aren't as good as they seem, they don't last as long and te benefits are minimal especially on <500hp applications.

Re: Turbo opinions, help guys!

the 60-1 is really laggy. My friend didn't really hit full boost until like 5k. If you're staying in the stock rev range, then I would just get a 50trim. They can make good power and still spool before 4k

Re: Turbo opinions, help guys!

Yeah, 60-1 is a little big. Theres a guy here thats running one of those, he said hes pushing 400 hp on street gas/boost. IIRC slowboy said they can do 550+ hp. I was talking about the 60 trim, like a 50 trim just bigger. Nate from SBR said the 50 trim could hit 450, the 60-1 could hit 550, and the 60 trim could hit somewhere in the middle. I know the BB doesnt matter that much this low in the power spectrum, Kevin says the same turbo bb to non was only like 100-200 rpms difference but that he uses them because he has a tendency to burn the normal kind up. Do you guys think a 57 trim would be a good choice? By the time I get the big turbo (basically last) I will have DSM link, big injectors and pump, FMIC, FP2's/Comp 101200's, and a SBR 3500 clutch.

Re: Turbo opinions, help guys!

Remember... 500hp on a 20g is rare and only on race gas. A 50 trim can be pushed well past 25psi. 30 is normal if you want to hit good numbers and people have run 35 regularly.

Remember high boost isnt "Bad" for your engine. Just make sure it is tuned and it will hold just fine. You engine likes boost!
