5 year sitting mustang

I have i 1986 mustang GT that i want to get running but has been sitting for about 5 years outside in oregon weather dont really know what i should do before i try starting it up any sujestions would be great

Change all the fluids out including gasoline
Change or atleast check the battery
Check the brakes they are probably rusted over
Inspect belts and hoses for rotting.

Just to add to the above list,
Check air intake for critters and to make sure nothing can't be sucked into the motor
May want to turn the motor by hand to be sure the rings aren't rusted in place

Just a suggestion if the rings are rusted..an older man I know came across a '65 I think Galaxy. Car had a 390 in it and the rings where stuck. He worked all the spark plugs out and squirted the cylinders full of wd40. Let it sit over night and turned it by hand the next morning. Changed oil, gas, ect and she fired right up with new plugs, wires, and rotor button & cap.

You are trying to turn the motor with a 1/2" breaker bar arent you?

Just get a socket the will fit the crank bolt and a breaker bar or ratchet and start turnin that baby over.
