Re: 1984 dodge ram,has new battery and new altenator but battery drains???
Hi
I just bought a '86 dodge Ram B150 van with a 318 and have encountered the same problem. I just bought a new battery at Walmart last night(model Dt-3N for the top and bottom terminals or model # 34-3N for the top mounts only), well anyways, it's still not enough cranking power. I'm going to bring it back and buy the $59.99 heavy duty one. The one I bought was $42.99. Depending where you live, you may even need more cranking power. I'm up in NY, up by Canada, very cold weather=more cranking amps. |

Re: 1984 dodge ram,has new battery and new altenator but battery drains???
I just got off the phone with one of my Dodge buddies, he said for the 318 we should ahev no less than 700 or 750 cold cranking amps and receommended a Decker battery. He said Decker comes with a lengthy warranty(like 5 years) and is American made.

Quote:
Did you replace the voltage regulator? With the engine running check the voltage on the battery from post to post with no accessories turned on. you should have a reading close to 14 volts.
