Smile newbie, just bought a 98...few questions

Just bought a 98 intrigue, for about 6500 CDN, from a used car place so i have a 2 year powertrain waranty, and by the look of this forum, il need it..

just a few quick questions,
  • the stock stereo has tweeters in the doors, any one know the specs of these. ?
  • Any one know the diff between the stock brakeing system, and the autobahn package that was an option, id like to upgrade my brakes,
  • more with the brakes, mine dont work to well, pedal is hard and you realy have to jam on it to get the car to stop. From what ive read the car uses cermaic brakes????
Any help any one can give me would be great, hopefully i dont have this electrical problem everyone speaks off......

thanks

Stu.

Re: newbie, just bought a 98...few questions

as for the tweets i have no idea, i replaced all my speakers with aftermarket ones but i did keep the stock tweeters and they definetely make a difference in sound. theyre aimed very well.

as far as brakes go with the Autobahn package they are simply larger rotors(12 inches compared to 11) and they use the same calipers and pads, just with different caliper brackets, GM Performance might try to sell you this for like 200 bucks, but i got mine for about 70..heres some info on that

the Autobahn package also included some other goodies, I believe those Intrigues actually WILL run 140, instead of shutting down at 110ish like the regular ones, and they may have some other interesting things as well who knows, they have a more aggressive gearing, but all Intrigues with the Precision Control System have a 3.29 final drive ratio if im not mistaken, as compared to the 3.05 the non-PCS ones have.

i dont believe the car came stock with ceramic brake pads, if it has it them, someone else probably put them on there, as for your braking problem i would recommend asking around on ClubGP, as they are familiar with the W-body braking system(Intrigues are W-bodies) and they have many knowledgeable members.

and no you dont have the electrical problem with the alternator, thats only for the 3.5 engine and you have the 3.8, you dont have the upper intake manifold failure problem, you might want to check out this link for some info on that.

yeah i would definetely do the brakes, it was well worth it, I really like them, theres SO much more confidence in braking now, especially at high speeds.
