Wheel fell off!

What are the possible reasons for an entire wheel to just fall off????

I was driving along the state highway yesterday and my car was seriously vibrating and making loud knocking sounds and it just made one big noise and fully stopped! Anyway I had it towed a couple of miles down the road to the garage and when we were pulling into hte garage the left front wheel fell off, the nuts missing and one of the nuts from the left right wheel were missing too. Now the last people to take the wheels off was to get a wheel balance at beaurepairs a week ago. My mechanic and the man that towed my car are dumbfounded as to why the wheel would come off and suggested that the lug nuts were not put on properly by beaurepairs? I am not sure what to do as Im left with some hefty repairs! I dont have hubcaps but mags and all lug nuts were there at the time of the wheel balance as they need a special piece to get them off!

the best guess i can say is the lugnuts you had on there may not had been tightened enough and with constant vibration eventually loosened and came off....

Did they loosen and come off or did your lugs break off? check the studs and see if they are broke. if they broke it's because they were tightened too much.
