Alright, i've posted a few times before bout this, but now I finally got a few things fixed to narrow it down. Well first off i got a new ignition switch, broke the bolt that holds it in, and took it apart and rebuilt the steering column, there were some other things wrong, like dimmer and wiper, so i figured, may as well do it all. Anyways, after that, vats relay is bad, replaced, and a new chip from dealer. I go to start my car, nothing. If i take the chip out, it starts right up as long as i screwdriver the solnoieds together on the starter. If I leave the chip in and screwdriver the starter, it turns over fine, but no fuel to injectors. I don't belive its fuel pump or injector, cause it runs as long as the chip is out. So my question is does the vats system have anything to do with the fuel, because i still gotta figure out wat to do about it to make it turn over with the key. Or do i have an ecm prob, esc module. I'm outta ideas, thanx for the help.
Oh by the way it's a: 1989 Camaro 305 TBI 700-R4 Mostly stock, cept for edlbrock air cleaner Got more stuff to put on it, but it aint working, so wats the point

Re: As usual vats prob. i think :(
First of all, it sounds like your vats is the cause of the starting problem(less the fuel issue)... when you said "a new chip from dealer" what were you refering to? PROM? Vats chip in key?
[In relation to fuel problem] If you turn the key to on, do you hear the fuel pump kick on to prime the engine? If not then you need to take a look at your fuel pump relay...its mounted in the engine compartment, right infront of the driver(its one of the 3 relays) I cant tell you any more until you tell me what chip you were talking about. |

Re: As usual vats prob. i think :(
You might consider getting a VATS SOS module from http://www.ecklerscamaro.com
You need to know your cars key chip code first. Be shure you know the correct key code...if the key chip was the chip you were talking about, then prohaps you got the wrong one. |

Re: As usual vats prob. i think :(
The chip I got from the dealer was the prom chip. The only reason why i don't think it's the fuel pump or anything like that is that it starts up with out the prom chip in the computer. I mean it idles a little rough, has to much gas going to the throttle body and gas mileage sux, but it does run, and fuel gets there. I checked all the fuses, goog. If the relay was bad would it let the pump work without the prom chip? Thanx for the help.

Re: As usual vats prob. i think :(
Try turning the ign. switch to on and listen to see if the fuel pump primes the engine...try it both with and without the prom if you want, but I think the problem is probably a combination of power reaching the fuel pump and a vats problem.
If you know your key code #, then you should go order the security override module from ecklerscamaro. The sooner you order it, the sooner it will get to you. |

Re: As usual vats prob. i think :(
fuel pump cuts on with or without the prom in, but without it cranks up and runs, with it, u can look at the throttle body while someone trys to start it, and there's no fuel, will start up with starting fluid, but will quit after it burns that up.

Re: As usual vats prob. i think :(
Have you tried pulling the trouble codes? Might shed some light on the problem. Go pull the codes and let me know what you find.

Re: As usual vats prob. i think :(
without the chip is prom error, well i guess that so cause the chip aint in it, lol, and with the prom in it, it says vats problem, well the defination of the code says that.

If thats all it says, then you know what to do.
