Door sags,any adjustment

95 Chevy Silverado Ext cab. Door is difficult to close because it sags at locking mech. While open and lifting on door no play is felt. Hinges appear to be welded and I can find no ajustment. Anyone know if there is an adjustment? JIM

While I am not recommending this, I actually seen believe it or not, a Chevrolet dealership handle this issue once. I was in their shop talking to one of the mechanics when another mechanic opened the customers door and began prying and jerking upwards on it very hard. Like he was trying to tear the door off. I asked the mechanic I was talking to, whats going on over there? He said, oh we are adjusting a customers door that was brought in for sagging! I was shocked!

I had a door that was sagging pretty bad on a 1991 Chevy and I replaced the door hinge pins. I found that the bushings were worn out. The new pins came with new bushings and this solved my problem. I had noticed some slop before replacement, but not much. So this may or may not help you.

If the hinge bushings are not worn it is possible that it is out of whack, but what caused that? You could go about it like the mechanic Evasman saw but body shops do have a tool that hooks on the striker pin and into the door catch for making just such an adjustment.

Replace the hinge pins and bushings. It's not that hard and you will be glad you did.

I had a 95 suburban and later a 98 suburban (both company trucks) that we replaced the hinge pins about once a year. I used these trucks surveying on construction jobs so the doors got opened and closed excessively.

Hi, years ago I worked on a Fisher body assembly line for a year.1956 Chevys.
I watched as a guy whos job it was to check the doors for alignment used a wooden mallet in the door and closed it pretty hard.
He knew exactly where to put the head or handle of the mallet to correct an alignment problem.
This was the approved method then, and back then the hinges were bolted on. I guess on the assembly line it took too long to loosen the bolts.
