general 350 street performance tips?
anyone have some street performance tips for the 350? (basically lots of low and midrange torque and a little less emphasis on high rpm horsepower) i have a couple ideas, but add any i didnt think of and well see what all we come up with...
1) heads with smaller chambers to raise compression, smaller intake port volume for more torque, for example the airflow research 180's i think they are called... i think they are available with 64 c.c. chambers... 2) long tube headers for more low to midrange torque...turbo mufflers for a cleaner sound and a little bit more power than stock mufflers would let by, and i guess better cats if you have em lol... 3) equivalent of edelbrock performer RPM intake manifold for a good compromise 4) any 750 cfm carb lol... 5) cam with just a little lopey idle to it, like comp cam's Xtreme Energy 268 or 262 (or just advancing the current cam if it's too big lol) thats all i can think of right off the top of my head, add any i forgot or dont know about lol.... by the way, does anyone know if replacing the stock 1.5:1 rocker arms with 1.52:1 or 1.6:1 rocker arms will increase low end power as well as high rpm power? i cant seem to find that answer anywhere, although i have seen tons of info about them helping a bit up high, i havent seen anything about how they do on lower rpm ranges... lol sorry if this damned thing is too long, im just trying to make sure i get the right parts for my 350, im 18, still in high school working at mcdonalds, so i have to get the right parts the first time lol, no saying oops and ordering a different set of heads lol... it takes me at least 2 months to make enough money for even just a set of heads lol |

Re: general 350 street performance tips?
here's one for even a bone stock motor at no cost;
flip the cam gear. requires a little machining of the gear to fit it, but it will give you more cam advance and improve the low end torque where higher rpm horse will suffer a little. |
