Drinking and driving? Opinions?

Hey all, while working in the drive thru this past week, I've seen two different people come through drinking beers... one guy had a Heineken (sp?) in a brown paper bag, and the other had a Bud Ice w/a straw :P

This was in broad daylight too... really dumb if a cop stops em...

Just got me thinking... how many of you drive drunk/have driven drunk?

I have driven after one beer, but it was like an hour or two after... thats bout it tho...

*shrugs* Seeing two people come through in one week just got me thinking...

Never have, never will. I usually don't have even a single alcoholic drink if I'm driving. There is plenty of research to show that it impairs your reactions well before you're drunk, or at the limit or whatever. Maybe not much, but a bit.

As for actual drunk driving, they should have their licences taken away for life. There's never an excuse. There are taxis, dial-a-driver, buses, friends, whatever. There is no excuse for driving drunk, as far as I'm concerned.

If you drink then drive you are a bloody .

All you do is risk killing not only yourself but everyone else around you and in your car. Personally I think there should be ZERO amounts of alcohol allowed in your system if you are driving full stop.

I hope that nobody I know is naive to think that drink/driving is acceptable in any form.

So I guess everyone so far is in agreement eh?

On another note, what do you all think of people who drive high? I'm not talking about people tripping on mushrooms or acid or anything, just weed...

Well, looks like I'm in the majority here. Drinking and driving is nothing to play with. I will say that I've driven after having a drink or two several hours beforehand, thus allowing at least an hour per drink. But even then I was very careful to drive. I hope never to have to do so again.

As for driving while high... I've been in a car with a guy who was high on weed. I hope his spastic driving was chemically induced and he doesn't always drive like he did then. I was truly scared and darn near told him to stop the car. I only stayed in because it was a very short ride and I was fully buckled in.

Since I work in the automotive industry we have a policy at work about drink driving.

Drink Driving = No Licence = No Job.

I don't drink & drive!!!

Or make it easier. Only drinks allowed on the roads between 11pm and 1am. That way if they crash, who cares coz they are only gonna do themselves in, or hit another drunk (win win situation).

Also, does drinking Coke while driving count??? If so, call me bad!

drinking, smoking, driving

I get a buzz just walking through the food line at a winery! I don't drink anymore, as I never saw any benefits from it.

I used to smoke 3 packs a day and quit 12 years ago on the day Sammy Davis Jr. died, I admired him alot. It was May 15, 1990, I still remember the day.

Here in California, we have a 3 strikes and you serve a long jail sentence for committing a felony, such as drunk driving causing injury or death. I think it should be cut to 2, after the second time I'm sure a person won't change.

Years ago when i was young and stupid i done it a few times and wonder how the hell i ever got home some nights totally pissed.
I look back now and think how fuckin stupid it was, not only to myself but to the halm i may have caused to other people. I guess i can say i've been one of the lucky ones that done it and was lucky enough to get away with it.....nothing to be proud off.
Now days.....i wont even think about driving even after 1 beer. It's just not worth it.

I dunno about drinking coke... but watch out while drinking from a water bottle...

I took a sip of my water, put the cap on and set it down, I took my eyes off the road for like 1 sec, then when I looked up, I was almost off the road...

I turned the wheel, the rear end slid out to the right, I turned the opposite way, it slid out to the left... and I stoped completely sideways in the road a foot or two from a fence... I was lucky...

I like that idea (In principle anyway; it'd make it a bit difficult for me f'rinstance when I'm working nights, but hey, if I'm not allowed out of the house, I just won't be able to go to work. Oh damn )

I never drink and drive ever. Even after 1 drink I just don’t feel as alert. No way that I’d risk it. It's not worth it.
