Question IS there really an new F60 coming, and it was not the Enzo!?!?!

I have been looking up info for a while about hopes and specualtion as to if Ferrari is going to release a special car this year. I have found some odd things, but this forum really caught my attention.

I know that people have asked before, but the topic seemed to die. I wanted to post in the anniversary thread, but I didn't think it belonged there.

Any ideas guys?

There was an article in Road and Track about a possible new Ferrari supercar.

The answer is the "Nuovo Enzo" you see here (though the car will definitely not be called Enzo), which we conceived through information from Ferrari, industry sources and the artist who designed the car on these pages. Following its usual pattern of a new supercar every seven years, Ferrari will unveil the Nuovo Enzo in 2009. The FXX is the best place to look for secrets to the Enzo's succuessor.

Which means the Enzo's 6.0-liter V-12 will be punched out to somewhere around 6.5 liters with about 800bhp, versus the Enzo's 650. Ferrari's renowned F1 gearbox will become a 7-speed, though it's not impossible that a twin-clutch DSG-like alternative may take its place. Combined with the extra power and less weight (the Nuovo Enzo will shed more than 200lb., U.S. versions are expected to come in under 3000 lb. through even more extensive use of carbon fiber), the car could hit 60 mph in under 3 seconds and the quarter mile in the mid-10s. Once again this will not be a top-speed record-breaking car, Ferrari choosing to focus on handling at all speeds. But figure on the car attaining 230 mph.

Unlike the dramatic change in styling between the F50 and the Enzo, the Nuovo Enzo will share the current car's general shape, but lose the jagged design that some found less than appealing. Think of it as a cleaned-up Enzo. The front of the car shows the most significant changes, with an actual Formula 1-type front wing-right down to the hangers. That wing is adjustable in length, height and angle. The two wings above adjust their angle according to speed. The low side flaps that sit directly ahead of the front tires are also adjustable, as the carbon-fiber rocker panels that fine-tune downforce at speed. The rear of the car has a huge diffuser but does without any kind of wing. Variable aerodynamic bleed, as showed on the FXX, will optimize down-force and drag, most of this lurking beneath.

One of the more beautiful aspects of the car is the flowing front fenders, much different from the Enzo's. You'll also note a lack of mirrors, replaced by a camera on the car's roof that gives rear views. The roof also incorporates an air scoop that grows out of the windshield.

Major lessons have been learned from the Enzo and the FXX, and whole Nuovo Enzo may look similar to the old car, very few peices will be shared-it's a complete redesign. And not only will it surpass the Enzo in all performance categories, but it won't have to make any excuses for the way it looks."

I doubt we will see one this year, we would have heard at least a little about it by now, but there might be another Ferrari Supercar by the end of the decade (2009 according to the article).

I know someone on FChat talked to a guy at Pebble Beach or Concurs last year, who was in the know, and said a new super Ferrari was due out in the near future.

Re: IS there really an new F60 coming, and it was not the Enzo!?!?!

thing is, ferrari (and lamborghini) have a very small production of cars and their shelf life is not very long with new development models coming out every 3 odd years (approx.)
As such, you can say that they will have a new supercar in 2008-2009 and there is a more than likely chance of it being true.
Replace 2009 with 2012-2014 (depending on the actual date of the new car) and it will still probably be true/possible.

You also have to take into account that last year(?), Lamborghini annouced intentions to resurrect the spirit of the Miura and even went on to announce target figures. With this in mind, speculation of ferrari wanting to make a rival car is again, almost a no-brainer.

Re: IS there really an new F60 coming, and it was not the Enzo!?!?!

according to an article in mtor trend last yr, ferrari plans on building a supercar every 4 or 5 yrs. using an engine based on that of the enzo's. i have an old picture of a black ferrari, i got it back in 2003, so since the enzo was already out, i doubt it was a prototype. i'll post it here late tonight
