Question Replace a 3.8 & Tranny with a 3.3 & Tranny?

Has anyone tried replacing a 3.8 and tranny on a 94 with a 3.3 & tranny from a 92? Both are AWD and seem to have everything in the same place. I'm thinking of swapping the ECMs and TCMs as well. Wiring harness could not be saved, are they the same? does anyone know?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Replace a 3.8 & Tranny with a 3.3 & Tranny?

Most Junk yards have a book that shows which years are interchangeable. Usually they are grouped together in years. You can check the book and see if the 92 - 94 3.3l's are interchangeable and then check the same for the 3.8l's. If they are grouped together I would say go ahead and try it. If they are grouped something like 91-92 and then 93-95, that could indicated that changes were made 92 to 93 that would make the sensors and wiring not compatible and that would make things much more complicated. If you are in an area the certifies for emissions, having an engine that is not in the grouping usually will automatically fail the vehicle regardless of tailpipe testing.
