i cannot turn off my windshield wipers

we had a snow storm last weekend and my wipers were on all weekend cause it was constantly wet and snowy. today was the first sunny day and i realized that my windshield wipers were still on. so i tried turning them off and normally it takes a while for the wipers to go off when you turn them off on my 93 s-10. it didnt work so i tried squirting fuild then turning them off cause that works sometime and again no luck. do you think its a fuse or the whole curcuit board? any help will be greatly appreciated because i cant stand driving with the windshield wipers on in the sun and i dont even want to know the other damages im doing to the system. thanks.

I'd say it's NOT a fuse. That would mean that you'd have no wipers. It's probably in the switch on the stearing coloum that has a short in it.
I had a similar problem with a different Chevy.

Good Luck.

Re: i cannot turn off my windshield wipers

I agree it can pretty much only be the switch.

if it's like my blazer it's a pain to replace, so I'd try spraying some contact cleaner in there first

contact your dealer. There is a non announced recall repair. I had mine fixed for free. They replace a circuit board in the wiper motor cover. Can't beat a price like that.

Ditto what "upnflyin" said. I had "possessed" wipers on my '93 S-10 and found a tech bulletin regarding this problem. It is a circuit board on the wiper motor itself (where the power connector attaches).

Re: i cannot turn off my windshield wipers

for how many years does a manufacturer have to honor a recall...anyone know?
if the recall was in 93...and um its now almost 2005.
do they still have to fix the recall...and do you have to be the orig owner.....hummm

I had a similiar problem with my 92 s-10 blazer where the wipers would work at random when i wasn't using them. I ended up replacing the sensor and the wiper/cruise/turn signal lever and the problem was fixed. It wasn't that difficult either...........just buy a steering wheel puller($15-$20). The parts came to almost $170 for mine. If there is a recall still active for your year...........go for it.

Re: i cannot turn off my windshield wipers

im not sure if the dealer i went to was just dicking with me cause i am a teenager, or they were completly serious. i had brought my truck in to try and get the wipers taken care of and they ran my v.i.n. through the computer and said there had not been any recalls on my truck at all. i find this hard to believe. from what i have read there was a steering problem with the yolke pinch bolt or something to that extent which could cause a loss of steering. they said i could either schedule an expensive appointment to get it fixed, do it myself, or just simply pull the plug to the wipers and plug them back when i need my wipers. im rather dissappointed in the service. im a fan of my chevy, but not the corporation behind it. all in all i believe impulsive78 has something there. thank you ill start with a puller because the contact spray did not work. thank you.

Re: i cannot turn off my windshield wipers

Well I'd report them to GM head office with your complaint. Then prepare to take it to another dealer when you resolve it with head office.

You can also try contacting other chevy dealers close by and see what they have to say.

Driving with out wipers is dangerous, I had to use mine probably 500 times during my 500 mile trip yesterday, and my washers several times too.

I have the same problem and just went to two dealers in town to ask about the recall, they both said it doesn't exist. When did you get yours fixed on a recall? Like when the truck was fairly new or recently? Maybe they've erased it from their computers.
