Question Cracked exhaust manifold

97 GLS Sedan 165000 kms.

Two mechanics have already told me that my exhaust manifold is cracked. The noise is rather irritating around 800-1500 rpm, then it goes away. I read that Hyundai has done a voluntary recall for problems with cracking exhaust manifolds, but for later models. However, in carsurvey.org, if you check up the reviews on 97-98 Elantras, several owners had cracked manifolds.

In my city emission tests are not mandatory, so the repair is not urgent.

I would like to know if anyone here has had this problem and how much the repair has cost them.

Re: Cracked exhaust manifold

Do a search for "exhaust manifold" and you can read a few people's experience with this. It looks like some have been able to find second-hand ones for fairly cheap.
