LED Gill questions
I am about to do a mod to my gills that involve drilling 12 or so holes in my gills and placing 5mm led's in the holes. I would like to hook them up to my signal lights so when i turn they flash as signals. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the headlights or know what is the best way to do this. The other thing i would like to do is install a master switch on them so if there are po-po near I can turn them off (cops really don't like flashing blue lights) I have found a DIY on another forum but it has no wiring instructions I can prob figure it out on my own but if anyone has done it or hooked anything to their signal lights that have pointers that would be awesome. (I know that some company makes a strip kit for the gills like this, but i prefer fabing it myself) if you have installed this strip kit your input would be helpful 2.

Re: LED Gill questions
Yeah, you should beable to use a connection wire tap to snap into the turn indicator switch wires, and run a master togal switch upto your dash, then a distribution block with power and ground wires running from your battery to the light sources. You wouldn't want to be putting that much load on the factory fuse box, you'd melt your fuse in nothing flat.

Re: LED Gill questions
Yeah thats what I was thinking the LED's will take to much power to run direcly off the turn signal wire so I will have to use a 12 volt power source... So i will run a line from the battery with an inline fuse to a master switch mounted in my dash (got sweet ass switches today) then back to the LED's but what i cant get my head around is that after I put all my LED's in series and have the proper resistors in place I will only have a pos+ and a -neg to atach wires to all 12 or so LED's on one side so.... how am i going to be able to hook the signal wire up to the LED's to get them to flash when my signal is on? I hope this makes sense if not let me know.

Re: LED Gill questions
I just did the math and I will only be drawing 240 MA from 12 LED's their might be enough juice in the factory signal lights... If i blow a fuse ill just have to put in a reley i guess.

This is a project I've been looking to do ever since I saw the gill lights kit for sale - unfortunately only from a disreputable seller (Shark Racing). Lookin forward to seeing how it turns out for you - what's the projected cost so far?

Re: LED Gill questions
I recently put in a pillar pod and custom gaiges that all glow blue so my factory lights (window switches, air unit, clock, odom etc) are all orange. I purchased 80 dollers of LED's from a site called www.lsdiodes.com (very good to deal with) and got 25 THC 5mm blue LED's 20 reg 5 mm LED's 20 3mm LED's and about 20 blue SMD's then purchased about 25 resistors for about 20 bucks. I am hoping to change all interior Led's and SMD's. But I saw the gill mod and had to have it ASAP. I am planning on using about 24 5mm LED's and a couple resistors some 16 gauge wire (10 bucks for a shit load) 2 sweet switches (4 bucks each)... and if my factory signal wires put out enough milli amps I should be able to do it for about 35 American, with me and a buddy it should take us 2-3 hours but if the factory wires dont put out enough MA ill have to buy some relays (not sure what their worth).... But in the long run It'll proll cost me more for beer then it did for parts... F@ck shark racing iv had some bad dealings with them in the past and they want 250 or so for their kit y not do it yourself.... I will be attempting this tommorow night afta school soo ill keep u up to date and if it works ill post some pics. Anyway if anyone else has some advice or has done this any advice is appreciated. What I really ned to know is if the factory signal wires will be able to supply an additional 220 Milli amps or if ill be popin fuses. But if i get no advice ill just have to buy some extra fuses and experiment

Re: LED Gill questions
Your right you will be fine just tapping off of the original turn signal leads. LED's have very little current draw. If you draw too much it will just pop the fuse and you will know you need to use an external source lead and a relay would be the best isolation method. But it shouldn't be a problem. Typically the fuse rating is twice what the average current draw is anyways.

Any progress on this? I'm still interested in doing this myself at some point

Re: LED Gill questions
Yea, I'd like to see results on this mod as well. Do you have a wiring diagram of how you did your project that you could post?

Re: LED Gill questions
Ok I finished installing the LED's into the gills and it looks awesome. The only thing is the LED's are way to bright...(I actually can look in my side mirror and see a blue light being cast on the backs of roadsigns that are a block behind me) I'v disconected them for now but will either be hooking them up to a master switch so i have control over them wheather my lights are on or not, or I will figure out how to wire them so they will only come on when i signal. After wasting my only day off changing my crank pulley i never got to it but iv got reading week next week so if i dont have to work I can spend some time dicking with the wiring. Ill try to post then and if I remember ill get some pictures this time.
