Can some one help. Some times it seams that there is no brake when its raining. ANd how do you remove the disc brakes on a 1999 passat

Re: Brake 1999 passat

Sometimes it happens to my car too (initially though). I think that it's water acting as lubricant, or it washes oils from the surrounding area and deposits onto discs. Anyhow, a drop of oil on disc might cause a brake to fail. Also, the tire disc has wide open space for water to go in. The only solution that come to my mind is just to clean the area. Check if CV boot is broken, perhaps grease gets to the disc.

Re: Brake 1999 passat

If you look under the front bumper of the 2001.5-2005 Passats, you'll see they came up with a small deflector poised at the front of each front wheel to aid in keeping the discs as dry as possible in heavy rain. Nothing really unusual about not having brakes for the first second or two in heavy rain. Water isn't really conducive to friction. SOme cars are a little better or worse but lots of factors come into play. Wheels with wide open spoke designs, amount of water on the ground, the last time you applied the brakes,etc...
