contour keeps dieing 95 contour

my 95 contour 4 cyl's radio kept staying on about a week ago when no one was in the car and no keys ... factory radio. well it wouldnt start had to charge it or jump start it. died in the middle of the road. had to get a push to the parts store. they tested the battery and it was no good. bought a brand new one ,had the altinator tested too they said it was fine this was on wednesay and its now saturday. i kept having to press the power button off on the radio. went to a friends house last night and went to leave this afternoon and it cranked fine, went down the road it almost died in the road. got a jump but it was clicking when i tryed to start it before the jump. got about a mile down the road after the jump and got to about 60 mph and the car went slwoer and pannel lights dim. it died again and wouldnt make a sound when i tryed to recrank it ..... HELP! is it the altinator? even though i never smelt the rotten egg smell? the guy that jumped me off heard the clicking and said it was the sylinoid switch on the started and the other ppl i asked said altinaor. had nothing but problems outta this car wasted 2500 on it. if anyone knows what this problem of mine is please HELP ME thanks

Your car is dying because youve got an obvious short circuit at the radio. Because it stays on when the car is off, its continually draining the battery. Try this. Pull the fuse for the radio under the driver side footwell. If you have the owners manual, all the fuses are listed in there as well as what they pertain too. If the problem persists after you do this, then you have possibly an alternator problem AND/OR the alternator relay is bad.

Btw, the rotten egg smell pertains to a bad catalytic convertor which wont cause the symptons your saying.
