Lost my Tranny Fluid

Early last Friday morning, my daughter ran over some road debris in my 93 S-10 Blazer 4.3L and managed to puncture one of the Tranny oil cooler lines that runs along side of the engine from the transmission to the radiator. Since it was dark and there was no other apparent damage, she drove on unknowingly for about 4 miles when the truck just stopped moving.

I learned from the dealer that the oil lines are not supported by GM and that all you can do is repair them. So with a tubing cutter and a 6 inch piece of Transmission Oil Cooler (Rubber) hose, and 2 hose clamps, I repaired the damaged tube. There is a Oil line hanger bracket that attaches to the oil pan bolt on the right front corner of the engine. The tube was smashed up into this bolt and split open.

After re-filling, all seems well. I had to re-fill the tranny with approx. 6 quarts of fluid, which leads me to my question. Has anyone experienced this type of sudden fluid loss? Was there any damage? Is there any common problems or possible damage associated with this kind of fluid loss?

Re: Lost my Tranny Fluid

Someone added an additional tranny cooler to my Blazer before I got it. While driving on the interstate at ~80mph, the line popped of where they spliced it in. It lost about 5 quarts and started slipping. I fixed the line and topped it off. That was about 50,000 miles ago and I haven't experienced any additional negative effects.

I guess it would all depend on weather or not she kept on trying to make it go. If it ran out of fluid, started slipping and pulled over and went no further, i'd say your fine. However, if she kept trying to make it go with no oil, there may be significant problems. Good luck
