Re: Electric Cooling Fan Won't Come On
Check to make sure the motor is functional, then if it is still functional install a toggle switch so you can control the fan manually.

Re: Electric Cooling Fan Won't Come On
Well, I tested the fan manually and it worked but I don't want to "Ghetto" the project. I just need more info because I have worked on cars for years and I have never had such a problem unless I have a short but, everything has power on the voltmeter.

Re: Electric Cooling Fan Won't Come On
Have you tested to see if the fan will come on when grounding the cooling sensor wire. ( Located on the right hand side of the engine under the exhaust manifold - single wire usually green or green/white)?
If it comes on when grounded at that point then your problem is either in the connector or the switch itself Could have gotten a bad switch as a replacement |

Re: Electric Cooling Fan Won't Come On
ditto what he said. ground the wire at the sensor and see if it kicks on. I had a problem with mine not coming on a while ago and it turned out that the dip stick tube was hitting the sensor and then making the connector come loose from the sensor though it still looked connected.

Re: Electric Cooling Fan Won't Come On
Quote:
I went to a salvage yard and picked up an extra dash peace(the black plastic plate the headlight switch comes out of) and drilled a hole in the bottom section of it and put in a blue aircraft switch(I think it looks good)...I tied ran two wires side by side from behind the switch to the passengerside kick pannel and out the same hole for the radio antenna wire, and up to the front right side of my engine compartment. I spliced one of the wires into the power feed for the fan, and the other into one of the hot wires from the battery(with an inline fuse of course). It has come in handy on numerous occasions including major traffic and a issue I had where there was a short on my gages fuse so I just flicked the switch on when ever I felt it was necessary. My fan does work by itself, but sometimes I want to be in more direct control. You should do something like this atleast you find out what is causing the problem, that is if your car is your only form of transportation. |

Re: Electric Cooling Fan Won't Come On
This may be a stupid question but is the sensor good for sure?

Re: Electric Cooling Fan Won't Come On
Yeah, the sensor was good. The connector had just gotten brittle and basically fell out. I would have noticed it this weekend because I have to take my headers off to replace the gaskets but.......I was tired of it trying to overheat when I was sitting still.
