Re: Ignition Module Problem. HELP!!!!!!!
Well start with the year make and model and engine and trans and mileage.
Was it doing the same thing before ign module? Why did you replace it? Any check engine lights. Does it start and run good before you drive it? When at the stop sign after you put it in park will it run ok or do you have to hold your food on the gas? Try just starting it up and letting it sit there and warm up. And tell us what it does then. Re: Ignition Module Problem. HELP!!!!!!!
Cutlass Ciera SL, ´90, 3.3. Millage=80.000
I replaced the module because the car was overheating, the "check engine soon" light when on, every time the car was overheating, with no visual or aparent cause. I had to stop the car, wait 30 minutes ´til the car was fine, and then after a few miles, the same. The mechanic scanned the car, and the scan showed an error with the ignnition module, so I replaced ityesterday. Now i have a worso problem, the car stalls and stops everytime i brake the car, or i stop it at a light/stop sign/ intersection. If i leave the car running alone in throtle, the car will die after a little bit. When I stop the car i have to run the gas because if not, it will stop. I try letting the car sitting alone and i did die. The car didnt have this problem before. I need HELP PLEASE. |

Also a scanner will not say the ign module is bad. What code no did he get/ Post back the code no. If it is more bad with the new ign module the new one is bad or you stired up another problem changing it. Check all wiring and hoses and vacume lines that you may have left off or unpluged. Check your plug wires for being crossed and make sure your are getting good hot blue spark out of coils and to all plugs. Is the enine missing? Pull one plug wire off at atime and see if it makes any differance. If all else fails put the old ign module back on and see what it does. Is the check engine light still on? If so pull codes and post back codes. MT

Re: Ignition Module Problem. HELP!!!!!!!
Overheating is not caused by a ign module.
- My mechanic told me the computer scan showed that the ign module was bad, and I had to replace it. What code no did he get/ Post back the code no. - I had two codes, one with a metal key, just counting the blinkings ( code 31) and the other and more reliable the Snap-on computer Scanner (4,000USD) saying that the ign module it was not good. Check all wiring and hoses and vacume lines that you may have left off or unpluged. Check your plug wires for being crossed and make sure your are getting good hot blue spark out of coils and to all plugs. - Everythig checked and looks fine. Is the enine missing? Pull one plug wire off at atime and see if it makes any differance. - No diference If all else fails put the old ign module back on and see what it does. - The old ign module is long gone, I put it in the garbage last night and this evening the garbage was clean. I know is bad luck, they dont clean so good, just when i have to find something important in the garbage! Is the check engine light still on? If so pull codes and post back codes. - There is not light, so I cant post any codes. HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP |

Re: Ignition Module Problem. HELP!!!!!!!
If you pull one wire off it should make it miss if it is not already missing on that cylinder. Did you check for good hot blue spark to all plugs?
How do the plugs look? Even if you have a double gold eagle platumin scanner. A scanner or code does not or will say a ign module is bad. What was the code no that told him the ign module was bad? If it is not running as good with the new ign module and you do not have the old one you need to get another known good one. Like not one of the el chepo ones a good OEM type.

Re: Ignition Module Problem. HELP!!!!!!!
For ODBI, you just jump the A, B port with a wire, and then put the ignition to the ON position, just before you actually crank the engine position. The radiator fan should turn on immediately. The light on the engine should start blinking first with the 12 code.
It will first flash this way. flash, .... pause .... flash, flash = 12 flash, .... pause .... flash, flash = 12 flash, .... pause .... flash, flash = 12 It will do that 3 times. Right after it repeats 3 times then the real error code will begin to flash. Once all the error code is flashed then it will start to flash code 12 again 3 times. |

Re: Ignition Module Problem. HELP!!!!!!!
OK!
I went to my friends garage, he fix everything..... I check for spark on the coils using an screw driver and checking the coils together, the coils seems to be fine and running. He changed the thermostat because we though it could fix the overheating problem, and we thin it did, but not sure yet. I replaced the ignition module for a new one. After i replaced, the car was running smoothly. After a few miles the car was stalling again, it was the same BS, started stalling and stopped by my house. I called the other mechanic (the one who told me to replace the ignition module) he told me he has to see the car running and check for codes again with his "top of the line" Snap-on scanner. I think something also is wrong, because after changing the ignition module the stalling and stopping came on. I dont know what to do anymore. Any suggestions before i talk to the new mechanic? |

Re: Ignition Module Problem. HELP!!!!!!!
I would see what the snap on scanner has to say and write down the code and post back code no if it has any codes.

Re: Ignition Module Problem. HELP!!!!!!!
I do not know if this is off the mark, but I had the same problem years ago with my wife's 1991 Calais. It would start and run fine but once you came to a stop it would stall and could only get it moving the same way you are. It wound up being the tranny lockdown converter? - we just disconnected it and never had the problem again.

The snap-on scanner mechanic got six today, I can't do anything today. But I can try to disconnect the "tranny lockdown converter" if i know where it is. Any idea, anybody where that thing is in a Olds Cutlass Ciera '90 3.3. 6V.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks again for all your help guys….. |

Re: Ignition Module Problem. HELP!!!!!!!
If you want to try that there should be a plastic electrical plugin on the front side of your trans.
Normally the lockup solenoid only kills the engine when it is in gear not neutral or park. When they act up or stick they lock the trans solid and when you try to stop in gear it will feel like trying to stop with a standard trans in gear without pushing in on the clutch. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Re: Ignition Module Problem. HELP!!!!!!!
The transmission lockdown converter is not the problem in my car, I tried disconecting it and conecting it and runs the same. My mechanic thinks that is something related with the fan, because it seems not to be working and the car get over heated. He changed already: the water pump, cooland tempeture controler, thermostat, ignition module and the car is still stalling and stopping.
