I've got a '91 Cutlass Ciera sedan, 3.3L, 3-speed auto. It's got some spotty surface rust here and there, and a spot ahead of the left rear wheelwell that's rusted through. It's in dire need of new shocks/struts, as well as a less pressing need for brakes and (with newer tires) an alignment. The interior's alright, but nothing to brag about, and the cloth on the headliner's started coming down. If I had any sense, I'd be saving up to buy one that's in better condition.
However, having recently spent $300 on a new exhaust, so I could get the car e-checked in order to renew my tags, I've gone against my better judgement and decided to fix 'er up. (After all, she was free...) Anyway, besides just fixing up the car, I'm looking to do some serious upgrading in several areas: brakes, wheels/tires, suspension (including a torsion bar, if I can find a fit), transmission, and some engine tweaks and mods. So, all that being said, my first question is this: EDIT: I've found my missing Haynes manual, and have thus answered the question whether rear disc brakes were an option (they were). However, I still wonder: How much work and cost am I looking at to convert mine from drums to discs? I'd love to ask more detailed questions, but the last time I've personally seen behind the rear wheels was the one time I did the brakes myself, almost two years ago. Second question (and last one for the moment): Were any of the '89-'96 A-bodies available with a torsion (sway) bar? If not, did any other GM model come with a torsion bar that would fit this car? Does anyone know of an available aftermarket bar? Thank you for any help anyone might be able to provide! P.S. If anyone knows of a '91 Ciera coupe that's available (and in decent condition), please feel free to let me know.

Re: '91 Ciera rear brakes
RE-EDIT: Okay, hmmm... According to a local GM dealership, there doesn't appear to have been a Cutlass Ciera ('89-'96, anyway) available with rear disc brakes. I'm not sure why the Haynes manual would address rear disc brakes if they weren't available, unless they were an option on one of the other A-bodies (Celebrity, Century, or 6000) or one of the other styles (coupe or wagon).
So, does anyone know which style(s) of which A-body or A-bodies (if any) had the option of rear discs? Thanks again.

Re: '91 Ciera rear brakes
Never saw any A body with rear discs, and in those years the w bodies with discs were horrible.

Re: '91 Ciera rear brakes
Despite my hope, that's kinda what I suspected. Oh, well, it was an idea, anyway. Yeah, I know it's still possible, but I was holding out hope of finding an OEM swap, rather than some aftermarket solution or homebrew mess. (A swap, I could probably manage in my roommate's mother's garage. Anything more than that, I'm probably not equipped for.)
Thanks for the information.
