Car alarm problem

Hey guys this is my first time here and any help is really appreciated.

I have a 1993 full size chevy blazer and it had an alarm on it when i bought it. On the remote it says United States Auto Security i've never heard of them and i was told that all it was pretty much good for was the keyless entry(told that by a stereo store when i wanted to try and add remote start to it) but the problem is that when i press the button to arm and disarm the alarm it doesnt lock or unlock the doors anymore the alarm still arms and disarms though. Could there possibly be a blown fuse or something along those lines or is it totally shot.
I also just took it to a shop and they rebuilt the steering colum for me and i know that the alarm brain box is right under the colum. It worked for about a week after i got it back from the shop could they have messed something up? Any ideas or suggestions would be great thanks.

Well.. in a nut shell, and in the easiest way i can explain to ya... Basically to me it sounds like one of a few things... your door lock relay isnt getting tripped either because its faulty (%25 probability), or something is just loose, weather its a butt splice that got pulled loose, or a wire nut somewhere maybe. Check any inline fuses that are attatched to the wires themselves on the 'brain' of the alarm. Now the fun part.. tracing wire.. If you are lucky enough to be an electrician with a toner, your set, if not no big deal. Follow each wire and see where it goes. Depending on how old this alarm is, the relay for the door lock could be a 'solid state' relay and contained in the brain of the alarm. There will be an external relay for your starter somewhere probally under the hood. One wire from that should be tied to the brain, and if there is a second one, the smaller of the 2 (read the labels) will be for your door locks, if there is only one then dont worry about the external relays being a problem. The other wire you need to find is the one that runs to your door lock switch, either in the door or under the dash. You may have to trace it out from the switch in the door itself to find it, but it shouldnt be too hard as there arent many wires in the door there. Make sure everything has a good connection, and as an added precaution wrap electrical tape around anything shiny and exposed that might rub any metal in the door.. if the contact is a positive output and its grounding out on the door, the power will never make it to the switch .. ya know ? To me it sounds like something simple, and when u find it, you'll say doh!! why didnt i find this.. Ahh the joys of small electronics.... if i confused ya or soemthing let me know...
