Geo Metro Starting Probles Not the Starter
Can someone help!! I have a 1994 Geo Metro, I replaced the starter and it still clicks, like if it has no power. I checked the wires and all is good, It will start after i hit the key about 5 or 6 times. I dont know whats wrong can someone give me some more ideas what can i check, maybe a fuse?
I also tried grounding the engine, nothing. |

Eddie, check the wire running from the battery NEG to the transmission casing. this is where my problem was, it will LOOK connected but lo and behold its corroroded right off.

Re: Geo Metro Starting Probles Not the Starter
Okay this is one of the weak points of metro/ swift design and it's two fold. the ignition switch is apparently poorly designed so after a few years of use it no longer makes good contact. Compounding the problem is the size of the wire to the starter, it's too small for the application. All this adds up to less than 12v at the starter solenoid and a quaint, annoying "click". The answer is to put in a relay so the small voltage will trigger a solid 12v or more to the starter and cause that blissfull "whirrerrerr" we all prefer to hear. The schematic to do this is available on the teamswift.com site, you will just need to search ignition or no start or something similar. The other option is to buy an aftermarket starter button, it should include the relay, a spiffy button, and instructions on how to install all of it. I just purchased one for 30.00 or 40.00 at Auto Zone to solve this very problem, Pilot brand, pretty nice kit.
