93 3.0 v6 Won't Idle
I have a 93 with the 3.0 v6 that's been giving me problems. Here's a brief history:
Had a O2 sensor that would turn on the CEL intermittently. I had the sensors to replace them but kept putting it off. Finally, the CEL started staying on all the time. I replaced the sensors, but it didn't help with the CEL. I then ran the codes and got a 157 (MAF voltage too low) and another related to the EGR position sensor. I replaced the MAF with a used one from a 95 3.0. It fixed the 157 code but I still got the code for the EGR sensor. I replaced the EGR sensor and the CEL turned off and I thought everything was fixed. When I ran the car thru the emissions testing, the readings were real high and it failed. I checked the codes again and I got two related to the O2 sensors reading rich. After some research, I found that the MAF from the 95 was not the same as the 93. I went and bought a reman MAF and everything appeared to be fixed. I let the engine idle for about 20 minutes then took it for a drive. After about 10 minutes the engine would die whenever you stopped and would not idle on it's own. Checked the codes again and got the 157 again. Thinking that I may have received a bad MAF, I had it replaced with another reman. Now the engine will run fine (no miss or anything), but it will not idle on it's own. The CEL is finally off and the only code showing up is the 157. Any chance I got two bad MAF's? Should I replace it with a new one and not a reman? When I had the wrong MAF from the 95 it cleared this code, but the egine was running too rich throwing the codes for the O2 sensors. Any help will be appreciated. |

Re: 93 3.0 v6 Won't Idle
Check your air filter, air intake obstructions could cause MAF problems. If you have a K&N and recently oiled it, excessive oil could cause MAF problems as well. Look for any vacuum leaks, they can contribute to MAF malfunctions. Using a Digital Voltmeter check for the proper reference voltage to your MAF sensor, some MAF sensors use a 5 volt reference voltage, some use a 12 volt reference voltage, I am not sure wich one for your car. Do not use an anolog voltmeter becuase you may overload the circuit and fry your ECM. Also look for loose connections for the wires at the MAF

Re: 93 3.0 v6 Won't Idle
Turns out it was the IAC. Had to take it to a shop and have it fixed. Didn't want to spend too much money changing parts out and wondering wether or not that fixed it.
