Arrow Ignition Coils

Just put a new ignition coil pack (distributorless) in my jetta. I went aftermarket to save a few $$ and now it seems to have lost a little power in the powerband area. Could it not be generating as much power as it should? New air & fuel filter so that can't be it. Thx 4 any replies.

Re: Ignition Coils

lower Kilovolt putput prehaps? were the coil packs from a reputable manufacturer? did you replace the plugs and wires or at least clean and gap the existing plugs?

Re: Ignition Coils

The manufacturer was Beck/Arnley. Dunno if that means anything to you but it doesnt to me. Aftermarket from Discount Auto. Changed the plugs to platnum +4 (which don't need to be gapped) for gas mileage but no wires... not enough $$ right now.

Re: Ignition Coils

your problem lies within the +4 plugs. change to copper or better yet the dealer recomended silbers, and you will see the power shoot right back up.

Re: Ignition Coils

the factory ngk are good enough. "performance" spark plugs are pointless, they dont do anything special

Re: Ignition Coils

veedub, i tried these on my jetta (+4) i lost power. tried them on a 99 camry, same thing. i tried them on an old cutlass supreme, i felt a good increase in power. tried it on an old 89 5.0 mustang, felt an increase in power. whats good for one car is not good for everysingle other car. if it werent for my expierience i'd think +4s were phony, but there not. i think that maybe they work well on older cars, but i can't understand why they cause power loss.

Talking Re: Ignition Coils

Thanks for all the replies. I thought the +4 would just increase gas mileage, but I see no increase along with this power decrease problem. Ill put my old plugs in soon & comment back on the change. Thanks again.

Re: Ignition Coils

The owners manual stresses a particular type of plug with some type of coating (I forget the details) but I'd look it up and follow their advise. For some reason it seems to matter.

Re: Ignition Coils

I just realized I was in the wrong forum. Belay the last.
I gave my jetta to my sister who needed a vehicle with better mileage. I'm off to the minivan (toyota sienna) forum now.
Take care all.
