2000 Accord EX 5 speed
I am looking at a 2000 Ex 5 speed w/ 100k on it. Original clutch and timing belt. Recent front and rear brakes. Any suggestion on what to look for that might be a problem area?

Re: 2000 Accord EX 5 speed
Really don't know 2000s specifically, so I'm just tossing out suggestions based on older/higher mileage Accords and some non-specific suggestions, but whatever...
Obviously it should have had a tuneup (I think at 90k) so the timing belt and waterpump will need replacing. Documentation of routine maintainence and regular oil changes are good. Check teh clutch, make sure it isn't slipping. Take it for a drive and make sure all the shifts are good and that none of hte synchros are grinding. Pop the hood while the engine is idling, have someone rev it up and see if engine vibrates significantly due to worn motor mounts. Push down on each corner of the car, make sure suspension isn't too bouncy, it should only go up and down once, maybe 2x. Check trunk for water+water damage, some older Accords taillights leaked water in. Check all fluids, make sure they are clean, and not discolored. Check for smoke out of hte exhaust while idling + driving/accelerating (have somebody follow you) White=coolant Blue=oil Black=running rich(too much fuel in air/fuel mixture) Push all buttons and gadgets to make sure they function. Check wheel wells and underbody for rust. Uneven tire wear shows poor alignment or suspension damage. Test drive it for at least 10 miles if hte owner doesn't object, to make sure any Check Engine Light that was potentially recently cleared will reappear. And again, having a certified mechanic check it over is never a bad idea. I'm sure I may have forgotten something, but that should be a good place to start. And remember to get a carfax to certify the title is clean and the car hasn't been in any accidents you aren't aware of. Basically just test drive it, never buy a car you can't test drive, unless you're sure you know what you're doing.
