ford 1994 problems

hi guys
i have 1994 ford explorer and there some things with that dont make me comfortable
1- the 4x4 is not functioning
2- when i reach about 110 mph speed the engine rpm reachs about 3500 rpm i wonder if this is right
3- comparing it with other cars, like kia, hyundai, i find my car has less acceleration, is there any way or a part added to the engin to make it work like a turbo engine?
4- when i calculated feul consomption, i found it consume about 20L/100 km, is that economical

Please guys if you can help me email me at

Re: ford 1994 problems

I can only speak for the 4x4 problem, and even then you haven't given much info...If your lights near the 4x4 push buttons seem to work okay, and you can hear the "clunk" of the transfer case when it engages, but your wheels dont engage, then you have an issue with your front hubs not locking. Usually the quickest and cheapest fix is to replace with manual locking hubs. (You can also test the hubs by turning the front drive line by hand with the transfer case in neutral, and you should feel the hubs engage)

If your lights flash on the 4x4 switch panel, or don't come on, try a reset of the control module, which should be under the interior side panel behind the left rear wheel well. (White button I think). If this doesn't work, the electric shift motor mounted on the transfer case is a common issue with these. You'll probably need a rebuild or replacement of the shift motor.
