cd changer
hello all, i just purchased an 1998 honda accord lx. great deal, i love the car. only paid 5700.00 for it. i do have one problem though, it has a cd changer in it (alpine). when i press the button on the factory stereo (tape deck) it does absolutely nothing, the radio stays on. when i say nothing i mean nothing. shoulndt it atleast say "no tape" or something to that effect. im assuming that the cd changer has power, i can eject the cartridge out. when i do reinsert the cartridge, the changer pulls one of the cds into the player. is it the changer that is malfunctioning or the button on the tape deck is shot??? please help. i will look for a reset button on the changer tomorrow. well more about the car, four dr, 4 cylinder engine, pwr lcks windows, moonroof. nothing fancy, but really nice!!!!! it has almost 114,000 miles on it. i looked up the nada value its at 7000.00 the cd changer is an alpine and the model number is chm-5611 if any one can find an online product guide. and one more thing, what should i expect of this car and is there an easy way to tell whether or not the timing belt/chain has been serviced???? thank you very much

Re: cd changer
When you put in the CD cartridge what does the display say? Nothing or does it say Error or just stay on the radio?
did you try playing an actuall cassette tape. Does it work? the changer may just be unplugged from the back of the radio.

Re: cd changer
i tried to remove the facing that houses the stereo to see if it came unplugged, but the top of the bezel will not come off. i didnt want to break it so i just left it alone for now. is there anything special that i have to do to get this off, and how can i tell if the timing belt/chain has been serviced??? if not what should i expect to pay for this service?? thanks

Re: cd changer
the clock needs to come out. Behind it is a phollips screw and there are 2 that go upwards into the panel from the bottum.
Sometimes you can look down the back side of the engine and you can see the water pump edge sticking out from the t/belt cover. If its been replaced the finish on the aluminum will be shinnier than the rest of the block. But this still doesn't tell you if the t/belt itself has been done. really the only way to tell that is to start taking the covers off. i would guess somewhere between 300-500 for a t/belt depending on where you go.
