Question transfer gt lsd to 04 v6?

hey, my 04 v6 has ran through the right rear tire very quickly since i got it. I was wondering if the gt has a limited slip differential and can it be interchanged with the v6 rear end, which has an open diff. Thanks for any suggestions you can submit.

Re: transfer gt lsd to 04 v6?

yes gt's have LSD but it would be stupid to get one from a gt just buy a new one like detroit. and what do you mean witch has a open differential? you car has a open differential right now. LSD locks the differential giving traction to both wheels

Read it again, he was saying that the V6 has an open diff.

The gt does have lsd, but the v6 has a 7.5" rear and the gt has a 8.8". You can buy a new one or go ebay shopping for a 7.5 lsd from a ranger or something.

Thanks for your input, does the different size rear end from a gt cause a problem on a V6; what effect, like shorter gears, longer gears, or any will the 8-inch rear end have on a v6.

people that swap there 7.5" for a 8.8" do it so the rear end will handle more hp. you have to get gears made for a 7.5 rear end only. and new gears will make the car faster

Re: transfer gt lsd to 04 v6?

Go junkyard hopping, look for an '88-'92 Ranger with a 2.9 V-6 and the axle code F7..... 4.10 traction-lok! (it's what my ranger had factory installed

Re: transfer gt lsd to 04 v6?

The gt and v6 have the same gear ratios, but if you're asking if you can interchange the two, you can't because of the size difference. But a complete 8.8" rearend itself will mount to your v6.

Re: transfer gt lsd to 04 v6?

Has anyone heard of any drawbacks about putting a 8.8 read end on a v6. I basically just wanna make sure that when I take off that if i burn out that both tires are losing the same amount of tread, cause i got y2k cobra r's on the back, and the right rear got ate to shit. And when I do a dounut, i want to do a complete 360 not that weak stuff it already does. I wanna get loose like the rest of the folks in the club

a bigger differential doesent make both wheels spin t-loc does. replacing a 7.5" to a 8.8" is pointless unless you have well over 300rwhp
