Running lean and they want to charge a fortune!

I just had my car checked out due to the check engine light coming on. They said that I am running lean, and it is not my 02 sensor that is bad. THey said that this could almost be anything, and it takes extensive troubleshooting. They said they could troubleshoot at 95 dollars an hour, but it could take hours to find the problem. Then they will fix the problem. Obviously, this is a very expensive repair. I told them to hold off.

Do i have any alternatives? I was considering trading this guy in, but I would hate to lose money due to this, but don't want to throw money in a sinkhole on this troubleshooting.

What do you guys think?

by the way, this is a mom and pop shop charging 95 bucks an hour, not procare, or any of those types of places.

Yes, I believe those are the two codes. I'll need to check my bill in order to be positive. I do not have it with me right now.

Some things to check for codes P171,P174

Check the PVC hose for pin holes, cracks etc. If that doen't work then
clean the very thin wires on the MAP sensor.

what year and engine? i know the newer 4.0s have a problem with the plenum o-rings getting hard and not sealing which sets off that pesky lean code. theyre not too hard to replace.
