Rusted Out Pipes

My 1996 K1500, which I bought used, came with great sounding dual straights...unfortunately I live in the salt belt and they became rusted out.

Is there anything I can do to fix them? I'm afraid removing too much rust will take the metal with it...is it possible to take the rust off and then paint them?

I don't know how they would react to paint because of the high heat.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Rusted Out Pipes

sounds like your best bet would be to buy a new stainless steel exhaust you can get a full exhaust from magna flow or flowmaster that would sound nice for maybe $300-$400, sounds expencive but its really not considering that u can geta stock exhaust from the dealer for the same if not more money...

as for painting them i wouldnt reccomend it, you can get high heat resistant paint but i dont think it would last long, i guess it would be worth a try though
