Re: Diver window stopped working suddenly
Check one thing first. Check the connection on the drivers side window button. It could just be loose from opening and closing the door.

Re: Diver window stopped working suddenly
I think he means remove the button and make sure the wires are still connected to the bottom of the switch. While you've got the switch out, might as well check it with a continuity tester and make sure the switch is still good (which it more than likely is, unless it repeatedly gets wet and is corroding inside).

Re: Re: Diver window stopped working suddenly
Do what BlazerSS says. He's right on the money with his diagnosis. My 99 did the same thing, mine started working again the next day. Went out again about a week later, and the same thing, it started working again. There's a circuit board under the buttons. Look for a cold soldier joint( Loose connection) on the wire connector or circuit board.

If your buttons check out OK look inside the wire boot between your door and your cab. I have seen the wires in there break from opening and closing a lot on other vehicles. Just a thought.

If it doesn't look like it is an electrical problem try taking off the door panel. my drivers side window didn't work, one of the rivots came off of the window motor and was jamming the window. which prevented it from opening.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Diver window stopped working suddenly
You don't have to take the door off, the little plastic piece that your buttons are on just lifts up. Start at the front of the plastic(towards your dash) and lift back towards the seat. Lift it gently, and there you'll have access to your circuit board and relay and connections.

Re: Diver window stopped working suddenly
actually i have the same year car and had the same problem. i used a voltmeter and check all the circuits and everything was fine. I then removed the door panel and while pressing the down button on the circuit board i tapped the motor with a ballpean hammer - all the sudden the window works.
However now i know when its going to get jammed. If i roll up the window and normally you know how a windows stops when closed, well before mine stops it makes like this click noise in the door. if that happens i back the window up a bit and has been fine ever since. Its a huge pain in the ass though and would like to fix it some day somehow. Im thinking its just the motor. |

Re: Re: Diver window stopped working suddenly
Sounds like the motor to me as well. I know those motors and the fuel pump motors can get carbon deposits between the armature and brushs
and cause this problem. You could take the motor out and take it apart and sand it with 800 or so sand paper, blow it out with air and that will fix it. I did that to mine and it's been working ever since. No more problem. SC |

Re: Diver window stopped working suddenly
The driver side window stopped working on my 96 after about 60K miles. IT was the motor. If you held the switch down and pounded the door with your fist, you could jog the motor into working for awhile. Eventually had to replace the motor. IT wasnt easy but it wasnt too bad either. The hard part was removing the rivets that held the motor in place and finding replacements. Not having a big enough rivet tool I ended up using bolts and grinding the heads down to get the desired clearence. that was 120k Miles ago. hasnt failed since.

Re: Diver window stopped working suddenly
My pass window has "not gone down" about 2 times per year for about 4 years. It is the motr and usually the fix is to either rev engine slightly and turn off lites. Or to open and close door, then it works.

Re: Diver window stopped working suddenly
Mine does that too sometimes. I just punch the panel on the side of the door underneath the buttons. works every time!
