Howling on accellerate in rear

Hi all...havent been in here for help in some time but I need all of your expert input on sounds and associated problems.

Heres my Rig:

94 Full Size Blazer
5.7L 350 (rebuilt with 200kms)..yes...it hurt itself with a leaky manifold..
Auto

1. Howling sound from rear end somewhere but only when I accellerate....some metal in my diff fluid but not alot (finger test)

2. "CLUNK" IN TRANNY WHEN AUTO-DOWNSHIFT

3. "GRINDING" sound in rear wheels when brakes applied and speeds <40km. - Also, when backing up a high pitched squeaking sound as the wheels rotate.

If you're asking yourself why I keep this truck on the road, the answer is that I'm attached to it. Pretty sure I got hosed with a reset odometer when buying and have paid into it dearly and deservingly.

I know from how many of the questions and responses on here and from past inquries, you guys are the best to get help from.

I would love to hear your response..

Winsett

Re: Howling on accellerate in rear

I'm going to guess here at a few things. Clunk could be a bad u-joint. Check your rear brakes and see what shape those are in, if the shoes aren't worn, you could have sticking wheel cylinder that isn't letting the shoes retract all the way. As far as the rear end howling goes, it could be a pinion bearing, worn gears, any host of things.

Sounds like you have a bad pinion bearing.

Clunk WAS bad Ujoint

Thanks all......clunk was a bad Ujoint and fixed now. Again...sorry for this being a repetitive thread...I tried posting it in the Tahoe, Blazer, C/K, and Silverado forum but I guess it just ended up in here several times. Sorry, but thanks for helping anyway..

P.S. Still working on the howling noise from the rear...if anyone knows what kind or job I'm looking at or cost of parts (and labour if it involves rebuilding the rear-end) i would love to hear your thoughts.
