Neutral safety switch causes engine light?

Does Neutral safety switch cause engine check light? Could just needing an oil change cause the same light to come on?

No, neither do.
Go get it scanned if your car is OBD-II, if it's OBD-I short TE1 & E1 in a diagnostic port & count the CEL flashes to learn the code.
