Fusible Link info needed...

About a year ago my 1994 Astro Van started acting up.

Lights would cut out. Fuel Pump would stop working.

I finally tracked it down to a bad plug on the fusible link behind the battery.

The dealer wanted 600 bucks for an entire new wiring harness.

After poking around online I found a post where a mechnaic listed the part number for a pigtail kit. I went back to the dealer with the part number and ordered one. It came with a new plug and some shrink connectors. Simply snip off the old plug and install the new one. Took 15 minutes.

As I recall it cost around 27 dollars.

Anyway, I sold that van a few months ago.

Last week my nephew's Astro Van began having the same symptoms as my old van. I told him to check the flusible link/plug behind the battery. Sure enough it was bad.

I told him to go order the pigtail kit from the dealer but they told him the same thing they originally told me -- you have to buy the ENTIRE harness.

I'm been goggling the internet all day trying to find the part number for that pigtail kit again but no luck. The dealer hasn't been any help.

Does anyone know the part number or how I can track down this kit again?

Well I finally found the info I was looking for.

I'm posting it here in case it's useful to anyone else.

There are two numbers but it's all for the same kit.

<<These are the actual part numbers,
Delco #PT391 and GM #12102762.
I ordered a new plug w/pigtails from a Chevy Dealer.
Just came in Friday, It's the exact plug I needed.
Spliced it in with the supplied connectors and it runs fine!>>

For some reason without these part numbers if you go to a Chevy Dealer they claim you have to buy the entire harness and can't seem to find the kit == even if you tell them it exists.

find the wire size the link is feeding. or trim a piece off with the old link, a good parts store will have fuse link wire.

yes, i have found plenty of BS at the dealer ie: (you have to buy the complete fuel pump module, sending unit is not sold separtly)

This sounds very much like the problem I'm having with my 92 Astro.

Could you please tell how one goes about testing the fuse link plug?

I had mine on my '94 Astro burn out about 7 yrs ago- replaced all four- by simply clamping on round terminals and mounting them to the accessory bolt right next to the plug that fails- one of the circuits- the fuel pump I believe is also on th ehorn circuit- so if your van does not start- then try your horn- if it is also inop- it is probably the fuseable link at the wiring plug behind the battery.

Also- if you are ever stranded as I was- You can run a fused jumper wire to your fuel pump test/primer lead- over by the accumulator and blower motor- it is the plug sticking out of the wiring harness- I was able to drive home and fix it right doing this- no problems since.....
