wheel hubs

2000 4wd Blazer trying to pull the front hubs off. Have removed the axle nut, brake calipers, 3 hub bolts and have broken 1 puller trying to break it lose. What am I missing? Also can a bearing shop replace the bearing and seals or must you buy new hubs.

Re: wheel hubs

What I've done in the past is seperated the whole unit from the ball joints and tie rods, then I bring it into a machine shop and let them do their thing. They'll install new bearings. I believe that thye are pressed in.

You can't just replace the bearings without overhauling the whole hub assembly, and I doubt from a safety standpoint you'd want to attempt that.
Did you push the axle back through the hub far enough to break it loose? You need to do that first, but be careful you don't wreck the threads or mushroom the end of the shaft.
After that, spray a penetrating lube around where the hub fits into the steering knuckle, and use a heavy hammer to pound downward on the hub assembly to break it loose. I haven't had one yet that wouldn't come out that way. After you see it move enough to open a small crack between the hub and knuckle, you can tap a screwdriver or prybar to work it out.
